Geoinformatics 2006 conference opens for registration, abstract submission

Organizers of Geoinformatics 2006 announced today that they are now accepting registration and abstract submissions. The meeting, co-hosted by GEON (the Geosciences Network) and the USGS (the U.S. Geological Survey) as well as co-sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), and the Geological Society of America. This meeting will be held May 11-12, 2006, at the USGS Headquarters located in Reston, Virginia, and is designed to encourage and stimulate the exchange of current research results that advance the broad goals of Geoinformatics.

The meeting includes three half-day oral sessions comprised of accepted abstracts, along with one half-day session dedicated to posters and technology demonstrations. Abstract submissions are invited on a broad range of topics such as advanced computation and visualization technologies, application of knowledge engineering for discovery and integration of complex databases and innovative educational methods as they relate to the development of cyberinfrastructure for the Geosciences. Interested participants are encouraged to register promptly for the Geoinformatics 2006 meeting, as space is limited to 250 attendees.

GEON is an NSF-funded collaborative research project facilitating information integration and knowledge discovery in the geosciences and is led by the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).
